Last week we asked you for your thoughts on the Classic Series, 8th Doctor
adventure;
The TV Movie. |

Here is what you had to say about this story in the
DWO
Forums:
"This whole programme was terrible. They took a
British show and tried to make it popular with the Americans. As always
with American versions of British show this means relocating all the
action to the US, making all characters American plus altering the
script to make things more "exciting". As always this results in
destroying the things that made the show popular. In travesty suddenly
the Doctor can see peoples futures and falls in love. I suppose we
should be grateful that the kept a Brit as the Doctor.
The sad thing about this is Paul McGann showed a lot of potential as the
Doctor. If they ever get a chance I think they should do some prequels
using the eighth doctor esp as we never saw him die. They could use him
for a story explaining the time war we've heard all about in the new
series. The destruction of the Time Lords and Daleks could result in the
Doctor being killed and changing into the ninth Doctor. This could be
used if David Tennant wanted to take a break without leaving the series..."

"Sylvester McCoy gave one of his finest, most
dignified performances as the Doctor until he gurned on the mortuary
trolley... Paul McGann, once he got going was fantastic and proved to be an
exceptional Doctor, and the most cruelly deposed of all actors who held the
title.
The story itself, such as it is, is lazy and derivative. The whole
Millennium thing was on the rise in TV land while business and the media
tried to cajole us all into a frenzy of terror with talk of millennium bugs
and apocalypse - its use in the story is utterly pointless other than to
feed the 'end of the world' psychology the media was trying to propogate in
the public.
How the Master could revive after extermination by the Daleks; why the
Master would have felinoid eyes, or become a sentient oil slick that can
possess other beings is left completely unexplored.
The idea of the Doctor having Human ancestry feels completely at odds with
the notion of the indolent Timelords and their 'non-interference' policy...
If it had been revealed the Doctor had taken a human wife in his earlier
years, I'd have been more convinced of that as his reason for loving Earth
and the Human Race, and it could also have served as a partial explanation
for his and Susan's original 'exile' (and could also have fed with more
poignance into the loneliness motif raised in David Tennant's adventures).
I'm not saying I'd have been entirely happy with that route, but it wouldn't
have jarred with me so badly..."

"3/5 yes it's got
it faults but it's enjoyable enough fun if your in the right mood..."
