Our Top 10 Movie And TV Themed Party
By Doctor Who Online

If you were a little jealous of all the children getting to go to school dressed up for world book day, never fear. Adults can still find plenty of excuses to have a fancy-dress party, from hen parties to Halloween parties; there are plenty of reasons to get dressed up in your favourite movie and TV themes and have some fun. Don't forget to include a great range of games like hen party bingo, pin the tail on the donkey, and bobbing for apples. Here are some great party suggestions for children and adults alike to get you started.

1. Dr Who

Whether you choose to dress as your favourite Doctor Who or one of the aliens, there is undoubtedly plenty of costume choice to be had here. Extra-long scarves, a bow tie and a suit, and the David Tennant trademark tennis shoes. When it comes to games, you could play hunt the TARDIS, weeping Angels, or guess the planet that this unusual food dish comes from. You could even build a cardboard TARDIS front around one of the doors, and unsurprisingly it will be bigger on the inside than on the outside.

2. The Simpsons

Everyone's favourite yellow family, The Simpsons, are another excellent theme party choice. There are certainly plenty of characters to choose from, with Lisa and Bart spiky haircuts making them a firm favourite. Don't forget to label your beer as Duff and make sure you have some three-eyed fish in your decorations. You could play musical school bus chairs, hunt for Lisa's pacifier, and many other Springfield based games. This theme gives a great party for children as well as adults, so why not try it out next time you have a get-together.

3. Batman and Robin

When it comes to superheroes, Batman and Robin have a wide range of costumes from across the ages. Whether you attend as camp Batman from the 70s or the tougher Batman from the 2000s, the choice really is yours. This crime-busting duo gives a really great theme to any party, and you can have appearances from the Joker, Cat Woman, commissioner Gordon and many others. You can turn your room into Gotham City and even combine this with a murder mystery whodunit style meal if your audience is adult in nature. Keep it a bit lighter and less scary if you have children in attendance.

4. Grease

Summer nights are perfect for a Greece themed party, the ideal 50s school theme with big skirts, bows in the hair and don't forget your leather jacket or Pink Ladies jacket, depending on which team you are in. Sandy and Danny make perfect character bases, and you could have some bowling, knickerbocker glories, milkshakes and more to complete this retro diner-style party. This is possibly better for an adult party as children won't really understand the theme if they haven't already seen the movie.

5. Harry Potter

Since it was first released, Harry Potter has been an absolute favourite theme for parties across the country. Wizards and witches aplenty, with wands at the ready. You could even have a Harry Potter movie party and binge-watch all of the films, although that does take quite a lot of time. It's the perfect thing for a lockdown party if you're all attending via Zoom, and you could have one movie a week with everyone dressed as their favourite Harry Potter character.

6. Pirates of the Caribbean

If you're looking for an easy costume, then a pirate could be the perfect solution. An inflatable parrot on your shoulder, an Eye Patch and a neckerchief, and you're good to go. You could also get your hands on a plastic hook for a hand or a sword and be a swashbuckler. Chocolate pieces of eight could be the reward for various games, and you could even make people walk the plank if they don't do what they are told. With a sea-themed dinner, you are good to go.

7. Austin Powers

Groovy baby! Austin Powers had two hit films featuring many famous faces and offers some really retro psychedelic costumes. Go-go boots and big flowery prints will set you up for a fantastic Austin Powers themed night. Don't forget the cocktails and 60s buffet snacks, and there is certainly plenty of fun to be had in planning gains and food around this film.

8. Alice in Wonderland

The Mad Hatter had a tea party, so it makes perfect sense to use Alice in Wonderland as the theme for your party. Whether you dress as Alice, the white rabbit, the Mad Hatter himself or one of the other characters, there is certainly plenty to choose from. Don't forget to have playing cards, fine china, and cucumber sandwiches to create a perfect atmosphere.

9. Ghostbusters

If you're looking for the perfect party theme, who are you going to call? Well, the Ghostbusters, of course. Personally, we would have to go as the giant marshmallow man or Slimer, but there are certainly plenty of choices, and you can easily make yourself a proton pack with some creative Blue Peter style sticky back plastic and cardboard boxes.

10. Star Trek

From Captain James T Kirk to the Klingons, there is certainly plenty of scope for costume creativity if you have a Star Trek-themed party. Set your phasers to stun and get ready to beam down to the party of a lifetime.
